Private tutor in Deerfield, IL
Education
I studied a variety of humanities and arts at Franklin and Marshall College. My degree is technically in film, although I took as many classes in English Literature and Creative Writing, and writing was my concentration within my Film major. I graduated with a GPA of 3.7 in the spring of 2017 and was invited into Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest honors society in the nation which celebrates the liberal arts.
Experience
I love reading and have studied a variety of literature, including the Epic Classics, British, American, and Contemporary lit. I have also studied Creative Writing, Poetry, and nonfiction and have worked writing articles for the websites of a couple companies. I received an 800 on the SAT writing section and a 5 on the AP Am Lit test back in the day. I worked with one of my professors as a teacher's assistant during college and helped students comprehend their readings and write strong responses and essays. I'm good at breaking down the key ways to analyze a work and/or make a clear written argument, but I also think reading and writing can (and should) be fun. If your Shakespeare essay has you beating your head against a wall, a great way to really understand the text is to throw the stuffy literature criticism pamphlet to the winds and try bellowing "Once more into the breach!" while brandishing a foam sword. That is, after all, how the original audience came to appreciate such works. I want to be a tutor because I enjoy conveying not just information and skills, but a love of learning and a joy for language and the arts.
